Work time standards
In Poland, the standard work time is 40 hours per week and 8 hours daily in a five-day workweek. The maximum allowed work time is 48 hours per week, including overtime. Employers must provide breaks — at least 15 minutes after 6 hours of continuous work and 35 minutes after 8 hours (when the workday is longer). Work time is measured from the moment of being at the employer's disposal until work ends.
Overtime and compensation
Overtime is work performed beyond the standards defined in the employment contract. Overtime is compensated at 100% of the hourly rate, and for Sunday and holiday work — 100% (unless a replacement day off is provided). Employees can be required to work overtime in emergency situations, though there's a 48-hour weekly limit.
Flexible work forms
Modern regulations allow various flexible employment forms: remote work, flexible start times, part-time work, or job sharing. Task-based work time allows employees to independently organize time for completing tasks within a settlement period. Such solutions require written agreement between employer and employee.
Work time tracking
Employers must maintain work time records documenting start and end times, breaks, and overtime. Today, records are mostly electronic through HR systems or dedicated time management apps. Proper time tracking is crucial for financial settlements, compliance monitoring, and human resource planning.
