Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the 1980s. The name comes from a kitchen timer shaped like a tomato. It involves dividing work into 25-minute sessions of intense concentration, followed by a 5-minute break. After four cycles, a longer break (15-30 minutes) helps maintain mental freshness.

Benefits of regular breaks

  • Better concentration - brain needs breaks to process information
  • Prevents fatigue - regular breaks prevent burnout
  • Memory retention - breaks support memory consolidation
  • Productivity - shorter sessions increase efficiency

Tips for students

Adjust session length to your concentration - 25 minutes is a starting point. Use breaks actively: stand up, stretch, breathe fresh air. Eliminate distractions: phone in airplane mode, quiet music or noise-cancelling. Log progress after each session for motivation. Gradually increase study time, don't try to study for hours at once.
